1950s Kodachrome, New Zealand

I am involved in a  project restoring old slide film from the 1950′s. Quite like this set, they are part of a bigger set from an expedition to Japan.  The slides are Red Kodachrome – now an obsolete format.

The slides scan really well and can be reproduced with amazing quality.

If anyone would be interested in obtaining any prints or any further details, please get in touch.

Kodachrome

I have recently won from eBay a few hundred Kodachrome slides from the 1950′s. I am gradually scanning them and creating a pretty interesting archive. It’s amazing, Kodachrome give a truly unique feel and quality.  I am going to grow my collection of interesting Kodachrome slides.

For those that don’t know, Kodachrome is a legendary format of slide film that has now died. The only remaining lab in the world to the able to process Kodachrome closed on the end of 2010. The end of an era.

A fascinating aspect of these 35mm slides which are over 60 years old is that I can scan them to crystal clear images over 245mb in size, far exceeding most DSLR cameras with ease.

Not sure what I will end up doing with the slides, maybe create some sort of collage or a book and create a narrative – will upload a selection to my website soon though. Here’s a sample:

Coats

I have been photographing on Savile Row, London for a tailors. It’s been a hugely interesting project presenting various challenges on the way. I have been really happy with my lighting set up and have been using a couple of relatively cheap softboxes that were several times cheaper than a Bowens setup to what I have been used to. Needles to say all has gone very well so far.
